About Us

The Cultural Council of Birmingham Bloomfield is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization that promotes and supports the cultural life in our community.

The board, in collaboration with three other community organizations, The Community House, the Birmingham Eccentric and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, presents an annual Cultural Arts Award to honor a local citizen who has had an impact on the arts in our community and beyond, and the new Partners with the Arts award to honor an organization or a business that supports the arts in the Birmingham-Bloomfield area.

The Council raises funds to support the Birmingham Art in Public Spaces, providing installation, insurance and maintenance of public sculptures, and often works in concert with the Birmingham Public Arts Board to create and/or promote activities and events in the city such as Birmingham in Stitches, a semi-annual yarn bombing of urban sites. The Council’s website and Facebook pages link to cultural happenings in theater, art, concerts and dance, lectures and tours of architecture, gardens and other cultural spaces, as well as other related happenings and experiences in the community, in order to illuminate the rich cultural resources in our corner of Oakland County.
